Keep It Classy

Certain ideas come to mind when a person is described as a "professional." You expect someone with this title to uphold respected ideals and adhere to particular high standards — you expect a professional to possess a heck of a lot of class (well, all professionals except for the pros who play sports or act — we need to make a huge exception for them). Anyway, back to the good guys: Alan Oxenhandler is one of 'em. A consummate performer, this singer/comedian/dancer has stage presence, panache, talent and then some, and you can witness it all at 8 p.m. at Washington University's 560 Music Center (560 Trinity Avenue, University City). During "Alan Ox in Concert: Song, Shtick and Soft-Shoe," Mr. Oxenhandler (professionals deserve such respectful titles) will sing tunes such as "I Could Have Danced All Night," with the accompaniment of his backup band, perform skits such as "You, Too, Can Sing Like Neil Diamond" and dance a few of his newly learned steps — he decided to class things up a bit five years ago and study the art form of tap dance. Talk about professional! To elevate your Friday night from beer-drinking and stumbling to entertaining and toe-tapping, head to www.metrotix.com to buy your tickets ($10 to $20) or call 314-534-1111.
