Clutch

7 p.m. Thursday, November 4. Pop's, 401 Monsanto Avenue, Sauget, Illinois.

Clutch frontman Neil Fallon has the baddest beard in rock. (Well, the baddest one that's not from Texas.) Melt in some metal, and Clutch is the true successor to ZZ Top's legacy of bluesy and jamming — yet intensely focused — rawk. Peeling and squealing out of Maryland, the iconic underground heroes have a cult like few other bands do. It's documented on Fortune Tellers Make a Killing Nowadays, the second half a new double-DVD set. (The other half of the video, Clutch: Live at the 9:30, features an entire 2009 set, including the band's 1995 self-titled breakthrough in its high-octane entirety.) Clutch is celebrating its twentieth birthday on the road, playing songs from its entire history, including "Abraham Lincoln" from last year's Strange Cousins From the West, which landed at No. 38 on the Billboard Top 40.
