Experiencing art is always a sensory act. The works are very often visual but can also be sonic and tactile. Seldom are tastes and smells involved — but that's not to say that those senses can't or shouldn't be incorporated into art enjoyment. Just ask Matthew Isaacson. He embraced the atypical and chose an unusual medium for Sticky Tacky, his art installation at the Gallery of Contemporary Art at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park (5600 Oakland Avenue; 314-644-9350). Rather than utilizing more traditional means of art creation, Isaacson turned to his childhood, and specifically cotton candy, to create the works for the show. Now, you're not allowed to eat the artwork — that definitely wouldn't be polite — but viewing the pieces and getting a whiff of their teeth-clenching sweetness ought to be enough to bring back that sugary mouthfeel, if only in spirit. The show opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 19, and the exhibit remains on view through Friday, December 17.
