Make Mine an Old-Fashioned

It's easy to fall into December's trap; too many events to attend, too many lists to check, too many places to go, too many people to see. You get so wrapped up in the hoopla that you can't enjoy the hoopla. Shake it off, Hermie. Just get out there with your neighbors and soak up some seasonal fun. O'Fallon's Old-Fashioned Holiday Stroll is the perfect opportunity to walk through a lighted park while enjoying a hot beverage with friends and family, and then get as excited as the kids when the fireworks go off over the lake (fireworks and hot chocolate — that's livin'). Sure, you can shop at the outdoor market with its local vendors if you like, or you can just wander through the night enjoying the music and taking it slow; it's a holiday stroll, after all. O'Fallon goes old-fashioned from 6 to 9 p.m. in Fort Zumwalt Park (Jessup Drive and Veterans Memorial Parkway, O'Fallon; www.ofallon.mo.us); fireworks start at 7:25 p.m., and the park will be a car-free zone, so look for the signs directing you to the public parking lots. Admission is $2.
