Step Into Some Parlors

If you're a new transplant to our area, or simply in town visiting, you owe yourself a trip to Lafayette Square. The neighborhood due just southwest of downtown is one of St. Louis' oldest and most lovingly preserved (after a period of dire neglect that ended about 30 years ago). Architecturally, it's stunning, a must-see. Most St. Louisans have at least driven past those striking mansions and row homes and admired the view — from the outside. But how about a better look around? Today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., enjoy the 2010 Lafayette Square Parlor Tour and gain that improved perspective. Several private homes are on the itinerary, as well as the Barr Branch of the St. Louis Public Library and Lafayette Park United Methodist Church. Tickets are $15 through December 10 and $20 the day of the tour; children younger than twelve get in free. To purchase them call 314-772-5724 or go to www.lafayettesquare.org.
