Desperate Mothers, Read This

Your kids have had most, if not all, of their Christmas wishes come true. They're bored with their new toys, they've eaten nothing but candy for the past week, and now it's just you and them in the house. You're desperate for any activity, any reason at all you can get them out of your house and not have them come back with chilblains. Listen carefully: The Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org) hosts Winter Getawayevery day from Monday through Thursday (December 27 through 30), and it's as much a getaway for you as it is for them. At 10:30 a.m. on those mornings, kids partake of a variety of activities ranging from performances by Babaloo the Magnificent to reading to support dogs; Monday's activity is a free screening of the animated surfing penguin movie, Surf's Up, followed by free North Star frozen treats and a hands-on craft activity. Best of all, the Winter Getaway is free.
