It Is A Silly Place

Monty Python’s Spamalot is, yes, a rip-off of the seminal film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but it’s also a send-up of Broadway clichés such as the “rousing” showstoppers favored by a certain auteur who shan’t be named, and the diva who will not be denied another moment in the spotlight. It’s also silly, and packed with your favorite bits of the film (Tim the Enchanter, a giant wooden rabbit) set to music and garbed in enough glitz to choke half of Vegas. Whether you’ve seen the original film a hundred times or have no idea why it’s funny to forget your own favorite color, you’ll be able to follow right along with the absurdist humor and pop culture sight gags. The touring production of Monty Python’s Spamalot returns to the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-1111 or www.fabulousfox.com) for five shows this weekend. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday (January 7 through 9), and tickets are $25 to $63.
