Delmar Boulevard Freeze Out

Some people are already sick of the cold weather, but we say, "Bring it on!" More snow, more frigid winds, and please, more ice. The Delmar Loop agrees with the sentiment, as the Loop Ice Carnival returns for a sixth chilly year. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. the Loop (6000 to 6600 blocks of Delmar Boulevard, University City and St. Louis; www.visittheloop.com) the streets come alive with human dogsled races, the Frozen Buns Run, ice slides in front of Blueberry Hill (for the kids!), vodka and cocktail sampling stations on the Moonrise roof (for the adults!), ice-carving demonstrations, wandering penguins and new this year, the Ice Breaker (test your strength with a sledgehammer and two huge ice blocks). Numerous shops and restaurants provide specials and comfort if it does get too cold for you, or you can just hang out in the video-game lounge if you want to keep it chill all day (see what we did there?). Admission is free, but bring money for refreshments.
