Despite a tart pop style and some notoriety from a Grey's Anatomy soundtrack appearance, the Eames Era never broke out of indie rock's minor leagues. After that band split up, guitarists Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer started Generationals, a group that revels in the sun-kissed, hazy charm so beloved by bands such as Surfer Blood and Best Coast. The band's debut LP, Con Law, touches on passable pastiches of '60s girl-group pop ("When They Fight, They Fight") and shambling bedroom symphonies (the jaunty "Faces in the Dark"); it opts for a low-key, lo-fi sound where the Eames Era tended toward pristine, well-manicured grandeur. Generationals recently released the four-song EP, Trust, which further hones the band's knack for delicately applied reverb, tossed-off guitar solos and sweet, sleepy vocal harmonies. The band's second album, Actor-Caster, is due in March 2011.
