Since the kinship of the Kopecky Family Band isn't by blood, it'll have to settle for music. Classical strings and indie collectivism is hardly a novel mashup, but the Nashville septet manages to distinguish itself through the precision of those strings. On last year's The Disaster, the KFB's exquisitely tuned harmonies glide right over the earnest lead vocals, while string quartets sail above the streaming electric guitars and percussive equations. The title track is especially affecting, a call to escape the confines of quaint youthful life and embrace a city that can't be saved. Whether the band is evoking the floods that wiped out Music City or just the storms of this fin de décennie, it makes a bold statement feel and sound personal.
