Dan is your typical obituary writer (business is always booming), until he meets Alice, a stripper (also a growth industry). Something in Alice re-fires his heart, and they begin a relationship. He also pours himself into writing a novel inspired by her -- that's love. Or is it? While posing for his author photo, Dan feels a mutual attraction for the photographer, Anna. He makes a play for her, but she rejects him -- and Dan can't let her go. Masquerading as the object of his crush in a chat room, "Anna" (Dan) cybers Larry. And then Dan compounds the weirdness by agreeing to meet Larry in person. Patrick Marber's drama Closer explores how humans confuse lust for love, infatuation for desire, and sex for intimacy in a most modern fashion. St. Louis Actors' Studio presents Closer at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday (February 11 through 27) at the Gaslight Theater (358 North Boyle Avenue; 314-458-2978 or www.stlas.org). Tickets are $20 to $25, and the show is intended for mature audiences only.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Feb. 11. Continues through Feb. 27, 2011
