It's strange that a music scene can have hundreds of sound-alike pop-punk bands and screamo acts and no one blinks an eye, but the second you try to incorporate traditional Irish influences into your tunes, you're labeled as a "Dropkick Murphys rip-off." And while Flatfoot 56 shares many a musical signifier with the kings of the Celt-punk scene (bagpipes, mandolin, one-two-fuck-you punk), the Chicago five-piece is no carbon copy. Flatfoot is literally a band of brothers — Tobin (vocals/guitar), Kyle (bass/vocals) and Justin (drums/vocals) Bawinkel — and recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with last year's Black Thorn. With song titles such as "Stampede," "Hot Head" and "Knuckles Up," we're guessing family holidays are of the rough-and-tumble variety, and we're quite OK with that.
