Heed Sirens' Call

How long can passion possibly last? Can it burn white hot forever if the conditions are just right? Or is it destined to flame out eventually? And what, if anything, feeds enduring passion? Sam and Rose sure don't know anymore. Upon first making his fair lady's acquaintance, dear Sam wrote a song about Rose that lit up the charts and enjoyed instant-hit status, along with long-term monetary success. Unfortunately, the money was about the only thing that stuck around. Rose and Sam are still together and all, but their happiness is waning, and the passion has been gone for a while. Will they be able to stick it out and stoke the embers for another happy turn? There's no time like the present, after all! See Sam and Rose's story unfold onstage at the Jewish Community Center's Wool Studio Theatre (2 Millstone Campus Drive, Creve Coeur) when the New Jewish Theatre presents Deborah Zoe Laufer's Sirens. The play is staged at 8 p.m. Saturday, at 2 p.m. Sunday and at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday (February 16 through March 6); there's an additional 7:30 p.m. show on Sunday, February 27. Tickets cost $26 to $36 (at www.newjewishtheatre.org).
Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Feb. 16. Continues through March 6, 2011
