Save your drummer jokes for another ne'er-do-well Midwestern rock band, as Milwaukee's Jaill pays for drummer Austin Dutmer's pizza, gets the dude off the porch and tips him well with all the front-and-center attention a terrific player deserves. On the 2010 release That's How We Burn, Dutmer sounds like an amphetamized animal, shooting songwriter Vincent Kircher's psychedelic-edged hooks into early Who or Undertones-single territory. The band's recent tour pairing with Sub Pop labelmates Obits is savvy, as the latter has been spending the last two years honing its New York power-punk chops (think the Dictators, but less hairy and militant) to live up to the hype garnered by its notoriously bootleg-sourced debut.
