Feel the Earth Move

Ms. Day loves celebrating Earth Day more than her own birthday. It's true — she absolutely adores this planet we humans call home and honors it on a daily basis. She won't run her dishwasher unless it's absolutely full, she wouldn't dare wash her clothes in anything but chilly water, and she drives a fuel-efficient car — and only when necessary. Yes, Day is quite the land-ocean-atmosphere lover, but she's just sure she could, and should, be doing more. That's why she'll be wearing her best organic cotton T-shirt and recycled-rubber-soled shoes today and heading out to this year's St. Louis Earth Day celebration in and around Forest Park (Highway 40 and Hampton Avenue). Highlights of the event include all kinds of local music and other performances throughout the day; the Recycling Extravaganza (from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) for safely and Earth-consciously unloading typically unrecyclable items, such as Styrofoam, drink pouches, and pots and pans; the All Species Parade with Mayor Slay (at noon); educational booths and much more. Walk or bike to the festival if you can; carpool if possible. The fest runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is free; visit www.stlouisearthday.org for a full schedule of the Earth-friendly fun.
