Hey, heard the news? It's the sesquicentennial of the start of the Civil War, and that's a pretty big deal. Now, you can tour any number of battlefield sites, and in so doing, you're going to be on dry land the whole time. But if you feel like getting your Yankee/Johnny Reb fix on the water, get yourself and your history-loving friends and family downtown to the riverfront for a Civil War Sesquicentennial Anniversary Cruise. Every Saturday and Sunday throughout April and May (April 2 through May 29; daily from Labor Day through Memorial Day), you can board a replica nineteenth-century paddle wheeler, enjoy the views of St. Louis and the Mississippi from the unbeatable perspective of the river itself, and learn about St. Louis' key role in the Civil War from an onboard National Park Service ranger. Cruises run from noon to 1 p.m. — just head to the riverfront right in front of the Arch to board (Washington Avenue and Lenore K. Sullivan Boulevard). Admission costs $8 and $14; call 877-982-1410 to make reservations and purchase tickets or visit www.coreofdiscovery.com for further information.
Saturdays, Sundays; May 30-Sept. 5. Starts: April 23. Continues through May 29, 2011
