Deftones has two platinum and two gold albums to its name. Still, it's easy to feel sorry for the band, which never deserved its association with the nu-metal movement. Chino Moreno's lazy, vulnerable delivery stood in sharp contrast to the tough-guy posturing of Fred Durst or Korn's Jonathan Davis. And the group's drop-D guitar hooks had more in common with the space/stoner rock of Hum and Far than with Staind's numskull riffs. Luckily, Deftones has outlived the Godsmacks and Crazy Towns, and its 2010 release, Diamond Sky is its most well-received since 2000's landmark White Pony. Justice at last: The success of Sky, feels less like a band cashing in on old times than one capitalizing on a world that finally caught up.
