Luminary Center for the Arts patrons be advised: Chronic hearing loss is a serious condition known to be caused by old age, ear infections and prolonged exposure to Lightning Bolt. The Providence, Rhode Island, duo is notorious for its tinnitus-inducing ruckus, featuring amps stacked to create an almost literal wall of sound and drums being pulverized with a sprinter's speed and marathoner's endurance. But Lightning Bolt is striking beyond the sheer volume. Bassist Brian Gibson's melodies are stirring, soccer-hooligan-caliber anthems. Drenched in fuzz and pitch-shifted beyond all recognition, they are rallying cries for those adventurous enough to brave the decibels. With opening sets by Brooklyn sound sculptors Parts & Labor and local Hello Kitty noise punks Spelling Bee, Lightning Bolt's first St. Louis show in nearly a decade promises to be a full-blown celebration of skronk. Bring earplugs.
