File Nils Edenloff's wonderfully pinched delivery somewhere between Jeff Mangum's evangelical bleat and Billy Corgan's nasally proclamations. As singer, guitarist and keyboardist for Rural Alberta Advantage, Edenloff's voice gets the lion's share of the sonic space in his band's electro-folk catalog, and he holds the center with a tuneful twang that offsets the disco drumbeats and warm synth washes. The recently released Departing never settles in one spot for too long: Stuttering drumbeats help the airy "North Star" take flight while a rollicking post-punk rhythm shoots through the next track, "Stamp."
