Mom has enough knick-knacks on her credenza, and no one in the world needs a book of daily affirmations for motherhood -- what mom really wants for Mother's Day is time spent with you, her favorite child. So get your act together and take her out to 24th annual Laumeier Art Fair in Laumeier Sculpture Park (12580 Rott Road, Sunset Hills; 314-615-5278 or www.laumeier.org). Artists will be in booths selling everything from fine paintings to jewelry to ceramics, so if you feel compelled to get her a gift you can pick it out with her approval -- and that's something all mothers love, you know; an admission, whether tacit or implied, that you need her advice and consent when making any sort of decision in your life. The Laumeier Art Fair is open from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (May 6 through 8). Admission is $5 to $8, with an additional $10 to $12 fee on Friday night during the Art of the Vine wine tasting event.
