Do not be alarmed if you find yourself being followed by suave gentlemen with a malevolent gleam in their eyes, neatly trimmed mustaches and sporting waistcoats at any time during the next week — the city has not been invaded by dapper miscreants. Rather, Vincentennial is finally and officially upon us, and the die-hards are merely dressing the part as they attend the numerous film screenings, art exhibits and discussions celebrating the centenary of St. Louis' homegrown Master of the Macabre, Vincent Price. The film festival portion opens with a free screening of The Fly at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue), in which Vincent portrays the concerned brother of a scientist who's plagued by a particularly nasty bug problem. There is a cash bar and a special something will be given to all Vincent Price look-alikes who attend. The bulk of the films screen at the Hi-Pointe Theatre and include classics such as The Tingler (Friday, May 20) and The Tomb of Ligeia (Saturday, May 21), which will be introduced by legendary filmmaker Roger Corman. Visit www.vincentennial.com for the full schedule.
