Alone Again, Naturally

What if you held an art opening, but there was no art when the doors opened? Maria Marshall plans to pull off just such an audacious maneuver. The local artist will create her work directly on the walls of Gallery Visio on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-7922 or www.umsl.edu/~visio) between 4 and 7 p.m. Monday, May 23, during the opening reception for her show. The title of the exhibition, you don't matter to me at all: adventures in isolation and egotism, seems to be a sly dig at the loneliness an artist endures while making art; this time, she'll be surrounded by people, but it will still be a solitary process. you don't matter to me at all remains on display through Thursday, August 11, and the gallery is open Monday through Thursday. Admission is free.
Mondays-Thursdays. Starts: May 23. Continues through Aug. 11, 2011
