Home Town Movies

Aside from the occasional visit from George Clooney, St. Louis isn’t exactly a hub for big budget filmmaking. Yet, it’s home to a surprising number of aspiring filmmakers – enough in fact, to warrant the 48 Hour Film Project making a stop in the Lou. Since 2004, dozens of St. Louis filmmakers have teamed up each May to create -- and by “create” we mean write, cast, film, edit and complete -- a short film in (you guessed it!) 48 hours. The kickoff happens at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood Avenue), and the finished films will premiere at 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and at 7 p.m. Thursday (June 7 through 9), the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-995-6270). Registration as a filmmaking team is $175 (details and paperwork is available at www.48hourfilm.com/stlouis), but admission to the screenings is only $9.
