More Fellowship

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy won all sorts of awards and inspired another generation or two to check out J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. Neophytes discovered the wondrous realm of Middle Earth, and old-timers finally got to see exactly what a Balrog looked like -- everybody was happy. Both camps agreed on one flaw with Jackson's cinematic achievement: The films weren't long enough. That is now being rectified in a big way, as all three films are released back into theaters in remastered and extended versions, each with a special introduction by Jackson from the set of The Hobbit (currently filming). You better bring your Mithril trousers to the AMC Chesterfield 14 cinema (3000 Chesterfield Mall, Chesterfield; www.fathomevents.com), because tonight at 7 p.m. The Fellowship of the Ring screens with an additional 49 minutes of footage previously only seen on the deluxe DVD version. The other two films will screen on successive Tuesdays: The Two Towers (with 56 additional minutes) on June 21; and The Return of the King (62 minutes longer!) on June 28. Admission is $12.50.
