Approaching the Futre

Screenwriter Bob Gale once idly wondered if he and his father would have been friends if they were contemporaries; this moment of reverie eventually took the ’80s by storm in the form of the film, Back to the Future. Michael J. Fox became a mega-star, skateboarding became hugely popular again, Huey Lewis & the News added more sacks of money to their pile -- Back to the Future clearly has magical powers. The film remains massively popular almost 30 years later; some of that is no doubt ’80s nostalgia, but there's no denying the appeal of Fox's Marty McFly, or Crispin Glover's awkward turn as his father/new best friend George McFly. And then there's that flashy, DeLorean time machine as well ... Back to the Future screens at midnight Friday and Saturday (June 17 through 25) at the Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-995-6270 or tickets.landmarktheatres.com). Tickets are $7.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: June 17. Continues through June 25, 2011
