A Celebration of the Subconscious

Just like blushing and ear lobes, the purpose of dreaming remains a mystery to the human race. The one thing we do know is that some people love to talk about what goes on when their eyes are shut, and others love to listen. Whatever it is that makes our society so obsessed with dreams, it's a reason to celebrate. Inspired by its current Dreamscapes exhibition, the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts (3716 Washington Boulevard; 314-754-1850 or www.pulitzerarts.org) and Cinema St. Louis sponsor Dreamscapes Shorts, a contest and film night for local moviemakers to explore their own subconscious and display their findings for the entire city to see. Filmmakers were challenged to create short, soundless films of dreamlike imagery, and tonight at 8 p.m. entries will be projected in loops on the exterior of the Pulitzer. At 9 p.m., a first-place winner will be featured in the Pulitzer courtyard, and its maker will be awarded a $500 prize. Ever wonder what St. Louisans dream of? Here's your chance to find out. Admission is free for all visitors, and refreshments will be served.
