Being First to the Worst

If you've watched the news, you're familiar with scenes of devastation caused by natural disaster, and the sick feeling these images cause. That sick feeling is normally assuaged by the talking head assuring you that emergency aid is on the scene -- but how do the first responders get to some of these far-flung locales, and how do they go about getting aid to the people who most need it? Rescue: Disaster Response, the new large-screen film from the Stephen Low Company (Legends of Flight, The Ultimate Wave Tahiti), documents the efforts of the U.S. Air Force and the Canadian Navy as these trained professionals raced to Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. Featuring footage of the training necessary in order to deal with catastrophe and amazing aerial images of earthquake-wracked Haiti, Rescue drops you right into the thick of the action. Rescue screens daily at the Saint Louis Science Center OMNIMAX Theater (5050 Oakland Avenue; 314-289-4400 or www.slsc.org). Tickets are $8 to $9.
