Scenes, sounds and styles change too quickly to document them with any real speed or scope. Ryan Albritton and the studio he co-manages, R&R Music Labs, have abandoned any pretense of canonization with the STL Loud series of EPs. For these comps, Albritton has bands come into the studio to record a new and unreleased track. That's it. No overarching aesthetic touchstones, no attempts at cohesion, no mission beyond disseminating new local music. For this go-round, listeners can get a taste of the Throw Pillows (dissonant basement power-pop), Illphonics (slick live-band hip-hop) and My Molly (harmonic, pensive folk) get in on the act, as do Pretty Little Empire and Last to Show First To Go. All five bands will perform at the release show, and all showgoers will walk away with a copy of STL Loud Vol. 2 with paid admission.
