Despite the passing of Beat godfather and native St. Louisian William S. Burroughs more than a decade ago, the spirit of the Beats lives on. Local poet Joseph Sulier, a veteran of the written word, has allowed what few writers would ever think of doing: He has given his verses to other artists to freely interpret them however they see fit. The result is Bad Runes, a collection of visual work inspired by Sulier's poetry, with participating artists including some of his closest friends, such as Jeff Robtoy of the Bleeding Deacon, musician Bob Reuter, and jack-of-all-trades Josh Levi. A poetry reading follows the gallery exhibition. The Runes get made from 6 to 10 p.m. at Mike and Maggies, a factory turned art space located at 4528 Ohio Avenue.
