More About

Common sewing thread is one of the flimsier materials an artist can use, yet Gabriel Dawe makes it seem simultaneously opaque and filmy. For his installation Plexus no. 8, Dawe stretches massive amounts of thread in sheets of color from floor to ceiling, constructing rainbow-hued shapes that appear to be walls from one angle, and a floating haze of muted colors from another. Gabriel Dawe: Plexus no. 8 opens with a free public reception from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at the Luminary Center for the Arts (4900 Reber Place; www.theluminaryarts.com), which happens to overlap nicely with the City Wide Open Studio Tour. If you miss it during the opening, Plexus No. 8 remains up through Saturday, August 27; the gallery is open noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 30. Continues through Aug. 27, 2011
