Dennis Brown, Paul Friswold and Lew Prince suss out the local theater scene

The Crumple Zone and Songs from an Unmade Bed Both Buddy Thomas' The Crumple Zone and Mark Campbell's Songs from an Unmade Bed deal with heartache and heartbreak in NYC, but the former does so through shticky gay rom-com cliché and the latter through sparkling wit. Crumple's under-written characters vie for one another's affection in a scalene love triangle; the single Man (Justin Ivan Brown) in Unmade Bed recounts his losses in effervescent songs backed by a crack three-piece band (assembled and directed by Seth Ward Pyatt). Brown makes for a relatable and clear-eyed guide through the rocky terrain of modern love, his performance crackling with a verve that exalts the highs and soothes the dings collected along the way. Both works are presented in repertory at the Gaslight Theater, 358 North Boyle Avenue. For schedule and price info, call 314-773-1879 or visit www.citilitestheatre.com.
