When people talk about "doing" a given city or region, they usually mean it in the sense of fulfilling a mission as tourists; in the '70s porno flick Debbie Does Dallas, however, let's just say the titular character does Dallas not exactly as your average sightseer would. Debbie Benton is a small-town, good ol' Texan girl and cheerleader who gets the golden opportunity to try out for a spot with the Dallas Cowboys' cheer-leading squad. Debbie's too poor to make it to the auditions, though, so she and her friends hatch a plan to earn money on the, uh, sly. Debbie Does Dallas -- The Musical takes the blue movie plot and expands it with singing and dancing, proving that maybe you can turn just about anything into a musical. The NonProphet Theater Company stages Debbie Does Dallas -- The Musical at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (August 4 through 20) and at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 14, at the Regional Arts Commission (6128 Delmar Boulevard; 636-236-4831 or www.nptco.org). Tickets are $15 to $20.
Thursdays-Saturdays; Sun., Aug. 14. Starts: Aug. 4. Continues through Aug. 20, 2011
