It's great enough to travel abroad at any age, but especially when youre young. The experience and the insights and broadened sympathies it yields pays lifetime dividends. A group of design students at the University of Missouri-St. Louis were lucky enough to get the chance to visit Amsterdam -- specifically, its exciting art scene -- recently and they've returned home bearing souvenirs a little more interesting than the usual miniature windmills or Vermeer reproductions. Visie Van Amsterdam is an exhibition of student-designed posters in the Dutch idiom, and it opens with a free public reception from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 25 at Gallery Visio on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-7922 or www.umsl.edu/~galvisio). Those of us unable to get over to the Netherlands anytime soon can make do with the next best thing via this free opening event and exhibit, which remains up through Thursday, September 22. Gallery Visio is open Monday through Thursday.
Mondays-Thursdays. Starts: Aug. 25. Continues through Sept. 22, 2011
