Dan Boeckner's voice and sensibilities have so long been tied to Wolf Parade that listening to his current main project, Handsome Furs, usually involves imagining Wolf Parade's take on the same idea. That, however, is a mistake — and not only because the former band is on a prolonged hiatus. Handsome Furs finds a softer, more broken side of Boeckner as he and his wife, writer Alexei Perry, combine and convert dilapidated electro-pop into often melancholy but always enthusiastic projections of personal and global issues. The band's third and latest, Sound Kapital, births a collection of lyrics about a 2010 trip to Myanmar into a sprawl of passionate sound to remove the word "side" before its role as Boeckner's latest project.
