With Bright Examples, Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion's third studio album, the duo gets as eerie as Iron & Wine, as country-pop as the Jayhawks and as dreamy as Bread, while still retaining its contemporary folk charm. Working with Andy Cabic of Vetiver, Guthrie and Irion make a play for the acoustical corners of the indie-rock market without sacrificing their songs, still branching out from Guthrie's storied family tree (she's the daughter of Arlo, granddaughter of Woody), especially on the pastoral country soul of "Seven Sisters" and the harmonica-laced title cut, both of which have the inspired, loose Americana feel of outtakes from Mermaid Avenue.
