The exhibit Southern Journeys: African American Artists of the South features the work of 54 artists from all over the United States expressing their unique, African American response to the land below the Mason-Dixon line through painting, drawing, sculpture and printmaking. This Thursday, September 8, the exhibit comes north of the Missouri Compromise Line with a free opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Gallery 210 on the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus (1 University Drive at Natural Bridge Road; 314-516-5976 or www.umsl.edu/~gallery). Participating artists include Radcliffe Bailey, Richmond Barthe, Romare Bearden, Beverly Buchanan, Faith Ringgold and many more. Southern Journeys will be open to the public through Saturday, October 1, and the gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Oct. 1, 2011
