A "C" isn't so hot grade-wise but a C (more exactly, C major) can provide you a fine evening's horizon-stretching entertainment. So you ask: What are you on about, Cee Cee? We're talking about Terry Riley’s renowned 1964 composition In C, a chestnut of the avant-garde musical canon and frequently cited as the first minimalist score. The piece is played entirely in one scale, C major, and there are infinite, entirely fluid variations it can assume because the musicians performing it -- on any instrument they choose -- are assigned only the loosest guidelines as to how to move from measure to measure. This evening at 6 p.m., you can enjoy HEARDing Cats Collective's interpretation of this famously plastic opus at Summer Kyma: The Plaza In C.
