More About

Sometimes the most thought-provoking art is created from items we see every day, the detritus that results from our consumerist, fast-paced lives. Fortunately, kids don't think like that (it would disrupt the whole optimist/pessimist balance) -- they just like art that speaks to them, and on their level. Plus, they like to understand and participate in the creative process. Artist Michael Albert gets kids (and adults, too), and with his Post "Cerealism" Workshop, held on Saturday and Sunday (September 17 and 18) at the Magic House (516 South Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood; 314-822-8900 or www.magichouse.org), he teaches one and all about the art of collage. For this particular project, Albert is working with letters from cereal boxes to create a permanent installation piece at the children's museum. The little ones can help and even masterpiece up some art of their own to take home. Participation in the workshop is free with Magic House admission ($8.75 for all), and the museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Sat., Sept. 17; Sun., Sept. 18, 2011
