Alain Guerra and Neraldo de la Paz create installations together under the unified name Guerra de la Paz. Their medium of choice is clothing -- recycled clothing, actually. For Follow the Leader, their new installation at the Craft Alliance, the duo dress wooden frames in pants/skirts and shoes, then pile clothing atop the frame to simulate human forms (minus the heads) milling in queues that snake through the gallery. Stripped of any identifiable characteristics other than their jumbled outfits, these bodies recall the idealists' "empty vessels," waiting to be filled by some idea or purpose -- whatever leader claims them may mould them, it seems. Guerra de la Paz: Follow the Leader opens with a free opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 16, at the Craft Alliance in Grand Center (501 North Grand Boulevard; 314-534-7528 or www.craftalliance.org). The show remains up through Sunday, January 29, 2012, and the gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 16. Continues through Jan. 29, 2011
