Eilen Jewell could have so easily slid into the safe coffeehouse scene. And judging by the precisely appointed acoustic folk of her debut, Boundary County, she could have owned and remodeled it. Instead, the Boston-based waif has turned hard toward rockabilly and hillbilly swing, following her idol Loretta Lynn down country and blues roads and making her own detours into after-midnight jazz. Her latest album, Queen of the Minor Key, gives a champion band plenty of room for instrumentals and '50s-style honky-tonk, all imagined with Jewell's circumspect eye for detail.

Last Time: For her previous St. Louis appearance, Jewell focused on her Loretta Lynn tribute Butcher Holler. She's no coal miner's daughter, but her voice might make you believe otherwise.
