Debbie Does Dallas -- Again

You saw it in August at the Regional Arts Commission, now see it again (or for the first time) at the Jumpin' Jupiter as NonProphet Theater Company remounts the musical/comedy adaptation of the legendary '70s porno Debbie Does Dallas. Good girl Debbie Benton (Macia Noorman) tries to maintain her virginity while also raising money to make it to Dallas in order to try out for the Cowboys' cheerleader squad. Her rival is boyfriend-stealing, bad girl Lisa (Rachel Hanks), who will do anything -- and with anyone -- in order to stymie Debbie's impossible dream. Director Robert A. Mitchell and cast are most at home with the comedic element, milking maximum laughs out of stiff acting and nonsensical scenes. The girls are always moments away from an orgy, their boyfriends (Chris Ayala, Reginald Pierre and Tom Lehman) are hard-ons in football pads and everybody is exceptionally dimwitted. Lehman and Pierre are excellent in multiple iterations of the horny boss-cum-sexual predator, with Pierre bringing down the house as a submissive librarian and a meek shop owner. NonProphet Theatre Company presents Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical at 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday (October 13 through 28) at the Jumpin' Jupiter (7376 Manchester Road, Maplewood; 636-236-4831 or www.nptco.org). Tickets are $15 to $20.
Thursdays, Fridays. Starts: Oct. 13. Continues through Oct. 28, 2011
