More About

Day of the Locust, the new group exhibition at White Flag Projects (4568 Manchester Avenue; www.whiteflagprojects.org), examines America's ongoing problems with idealism and extremism. We're the land where anybody can make it if they work hard enough, but once you become successful (and rich, and famous), you become the enemy of the people -- we love nothing more than to build someone up and then tear 'em right back down. Of course, the back end of this particular game is that if the celebrity acts contrite when they hit rock-bottom, we'll applaud their courage. Day of the Locust features work that explores the hollowness of consumerism, the empty promises of glitz and the glory that is a spectacularly public failure. The show opens with a free public reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 3. Day of the Locust remains on display through Saturday, December 10, and the gallery is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 3. Continues through Dec. 10, 2011
