We give candy and flowers for Valentine's Day, because we're supposed to. We decorate trees with lights and tacky ornaments for Christmas, because it's all we know. And on Thanksgiving, we watch the parade, we eat, we fight over football and then we eat some more -- it's just what we do. We watch the Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade because it's an annual, dependable, nostalgic escape from family holiday trauma. Complete with dozens of floats, massive balloons, a multitude of high school marching bands and honorary grand marshals the Harlem Globetrotters, the parade is one tradition that's sure to recall a time when the holidays were exciting and stress-free -- before you even knew you had a credit score. The parade begins at 8:45 a.m. Thursday, November 24, at the corner of Washington Avenue and North Fourth Street; visit www.christmasinstlouis.org/parade for more information. Admission is free.
