If you live in a large metro area like St. Louis, it's really easy to feel you're in a self-perpetuating, unbreakable cycle of work/Christmas-shop/work/Christmas-shop/work, etc. Every day after Thanksgiving blurs by like an express train with only one stop: the overcrowded platform at December 25th and Time's Up. Sometimes you just need to get off that bullet train, but jumping's not advised. Instead, seize the crew's attention and insist on an unscheduled stop in beautiful rural Missouri -- for the Kristkindl Markt 2011 in Hermann. The market event takes place at Stone Hill Winery's Pavilion (1110 Stone Hill Highway, Hermann; 1-800-909-9463 or www.stonehillwinery.com) this weekend (Saturday, December 3, and Sunday, December 4). Kristkindl Markt is a traditional German Christmas market purveying everything from crafts to food and drink and entertainment -- everything you need to enjoy der weekend within the very hospitable confines of one of Hermann's finest wineries. The Kristkindl Markt is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There's no cost for admission, and you'll re-board the train of your busy life feeling refreshed and rekindld (ouch!).
