So much attention is paid to Christmas carols this month, what with the all-Christmas-all-the-time formatting on the radio, that written holiday stories are almost forgotten, all except "The Night Before Christmas," of course -- and you can recite that one by heart. New holiday tales can bring just as much cheer and thoughtfulness as the old ones, and they might even introduce you to a new author you can enjoy throughout the year. To open your ears and minds to fresh holiday literature, head to the St. Louis Artists' Guild (2 Oak Knoll Park, Clayton; 314-727-6266 or www.stlouisartistsguild.org) for Holiday Literary Cheer. At this reading event, authors including Gail Marshall, John Newmark and Jeffrey Ricker, share stories and poems from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
