The story of Clownvis Presley, King of Clowns, is essentially the greatest story ever told -- in a bar. A young clown who always felt apart from the other clowns, and was never invited to join in any of their clown games, the boy who would be Clownvis spent much time alone in his small apartment over the garage perfecting his gyrations and karate kicks and mainlining the Stooges first two albums. Slowly, this young clown honed his craft, knowing that some day he would be called upon to help the big man. And then that day came -- Elvis died, and he reached out a spectral, greasy peanut-butter-and-bacon paw on his way off this plane and anointed that young clown as Clownvis, the greatest entertainer of the age. Donning a garish jumpsuit that was cut dangerously tight in the crotch, Clownvis began incinerating stages across the country with sleazy witticisms, bizarre whimsy, insults, and a sackful of high octane rock & roll. Tonight, the Clown Among Men returns to St. Louis to celebrate A Clownvis Presley Christmas at 8 p.m. at Off Broadway (3509 Lemp Avenue; www.offbroadwaystl.com). He's joined by special guests Lola Van Ella, Sammich the Tramp and Foxy Lefelion. Expect sexiness, silliness and viciously-spiked egg nog at the very least. Admission is $10 to $13.
