Beside the Pointillism

Inspired by nineteenth-century impressionist painter Georges Seurat's seminal pointillist painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, Stephen Sondheim's musical Sunday in the Park with George dramatically connects the dots between life and art. While George struggles to create his impending masterpiece, his steady mistress and model (tongue-in-cheekily named Dot) is off looking at etchings in the bachelor pad of a hunter-gatherer baker on the prowl. The Repertory Theatre of Saint Louis' staging of Sunday in the Park with George opens at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, on the Browning Mainstage in the Loretto-Hilton Center (130 Edgar Road, Webster Groves; 314-968-4925 or www.repstl.org), and continues every night except Monday through Sunday, January 29. Tickets are $16 to $77.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 4. Continues through Jan. 29, 2012
