Alt-country torchbearer Old 97's returns to a city that knows a thing or two about the stuff. Frontman Rhett Miller's affable presence wasn't enough to deliver the band to a commercial promised land that has long since vanished anyway, but it's more than enough to keep the shows interesting. It helps that his songwriting hasn't lost a step — last year's The Grand Theatre, Volume Two is a second collection of songs created during one weeklong residency at the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas, and it's studded with tuneful gems.
