Every Thursday this month, the Landmark Tivoli Theatre (6350 Delmar Boulevard, University City; 314-995-6270 or www.landmarktheatres.com) hosts the Classic Black Film Festival, showcasing films of color that span the war-torn 40s all the way through to the blaxploitated 70s. The Fest's opening salvo is a real rarity, a black-and-white 1943 musical from a major Hollywood studio with a primarily black cast. Stormy Weather, starring Lena Horne, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and Fats Waller, documents the talents of some of the era's most incredible performers who were otherwise underexposed during their day. One of the film's many highlights is the Nicholas Brothers' inhuman stereo tap dance to Cab Calloway's "Jumpin' Jive" -- famously named "the greatest dance number ever filmed" by none other than Fred Astaire. Come rain or shine, Stormy Weather will play tonight at 5 p.m., followed by Richard Roundtree as sex-machine Shaft at 7 p.m. Imitation of Life, A Raisin in the Sun and Super Fly are among the other films slated for the festival's later dates. Tickets are $10 per film and are available at the Tivoli box office.
