In its three years, the Firebird has gone from the unused back room of a restaurant to one of the best clubs in the city. The 2012 schedule proves the venue is keeping its foot leaden on the gas pedal, bringing such legends as the Melvins and Mission of Burma to St. Louis. But its birthday party is mostly a hometown affair, featuring a bill that reads a bit like the 2011 honor roll of pop-minded rock & roll bands. Sleepy Kitty shows have been a rare treat of late, the Blind Eyes' new four-man lineup is hitting a serious stride, and Bo & the Locomotive's shows seem to end in flying food and group sing-alongs with surprising regularity. The out-of-towner is Chicago's Mutts.
